15-1-1951
Two hundred Aboriginal people living on Berimah Aboriginal Reserve in the Northern Territory go on strike demanding a weekly wage of seven pounds and equal rights with other workers. Aboriginal workers receive 2 pounds a week for Government work, and 1 pound a week for private employment plus their keep, clothing, tobacco and transport. They eventually march on Darwin and are dispersed by police. Unfortunately the strike collapses and the strikers go back to work.
